Governor Ved Marwah accompanied by Advisor (K) and Secretary Sericulture paid a surprise visit at the site of the Sericulture Project being taken up with financial assistance from Japan at Langol and Sangaithel's Mangraching.
The Governor had to proceed on foot for a long distance on the hilly tracks due to bad road condition, said a statement of the Sericulture Department.
It said that the Governor was unhappy with the progress of the work so far achieved at the two places.
He advised the director and officers of the Sericulture Department for expediting the progress of works.
Marwah said that as the project was a pioneering, one, he wanted the works accelerated.
He also wanted more investment on production oriented works so that the people of the State get the desired benefits from the project.
He said that he would again visit the sites after two months to see the progress and if no tangible progress is seen, he would take up stern action against the responsible officers.
He also emphasized the need for urgent steps so that Manipur get full benefit from the project, the statement said.
The statement added that Marwah assured that there will be no shortage of fund for such a scheme.
The Governor also held a meeting with Kiran Dhingra, IAS, Joint Secretary Union Ministry of Textiles and P Joy Oommen, IAS member secretary and CEO of the Central Silk Board, Bangalore.
